And a new(ish) blog is born!

Wait, what? I'm coming up fast on 50 posts, and now I do an introductory post?

I Know What I'm Doing

Well, yeah, but there's a good reason for that. See, if you'll notice, the previous 45 posts were all in the last two days. They are actually moved over from my old blog to here. I decided that I wasn't crazy about Wordpress, and that paying for my own site just wasn't making sense. This blog is free, and has lots of good options at my fingertips.

Also, my old blog was extremely eclectic. It was just all of my thoughts jammed together in a stream. That is not good for building an audience (at least according to Rob Donoghue, and he's rarely wrong). So, this blog will be dedicated to my RPG thoughts and work. All of my other work is shifting back to my old Livejournal account.

Who Shall I Be?

Picking a name for the blog was definitely the hardest part. I wanted something that was meaningful to me. I wanted something that had to do with RPGs. I wanted something unique enough to get nearly effortless SEO. But, it also had to be easy to say and spell, so that I could easily tell people how to get to it.

Division Nihil has been an important part of the campaign I've been running my wife through for about five years now. It is the section of Shadowforce Archer, an international espionage agency dedicated to "saving the world from itself", that deals with occult threats. The concept has been awesome (even if I've been decidedly uneven in the execution), and the Nihil crew is now more important to me than the crew of the Millenium Falcon or the Serenity. Of course, I have to thank the Crafty Games crew and specifically Patrick Kapera for originally inventing Division Nihil and their Lord of Illusion, Lothario Algernon.

What Else Am I Doing?

I'm hoping that this blog will also get a bit more traffic than my old blog did. To that end, I am planning on joining up with the RPG Blog Alliance. That should get me a few eyeballs. I need to figure out how else to draw readers in. I feel reasonably confident that the quality of the content is enough to bring them back, but it's getting that initial click that's hard.

In vaguely related news, I am now one of the hosts of the RPG Circus podcast. I've been on three episodes in a row now. In podcast-land, I think that means I've outgrown the "guest host" tag. I have to say that I'm really enjoying it.

I'm reasonably active over on Twitter as samldanach. You might see me on various forums or commenting on other blogs as Lugh.
